The Ministry of Health, Wellness and Social Services, through the Roseau Health Team, has taken its health outreach efforts directly to bus operators as part of Caribbean Wellness Month 2026.
The initiative at the Mahaut Bus Stop provided drivers with an opportunity to access basic health services while continuing their daily responsibilities of transporting passengers throughout the island.
During the outreach, bus drivers were offered blood pressure and blood sugar checks, basic health screenings, and referrals for follow-up care where necessary.
The initiative particularly targeted young drivers and other operators whose long working hours and demanding schedules can make it difficult to visit a health centre for routine medical checks.
Health officials emphasized the importance of taking preventive action rather than waiting until symptoms develop. Some drivers have reportedly expressed concern over losing friends at relatively young ages to medical conditions they were unaware of.
The Ministry said additional “Health Drives for the Drivers” activities will be held during Caribbean Wellness Month and beyond, encouraging drivers to know their health numbers, identify potential problems early, and take appropriate action.
