MUSCAT: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has arrested an Asian national in Al Buraimi Governorate on suspicion of laundering money obtained from drug trafficking.
The Directorate of Combating Drugs and Psychotropic Substances at Al Buraimi Governorate Police Command arrested the suspect, who allegedly also used social media to promote and traffic drugs and psychotropic substances.
The ROP urged the public to report social media accounts promoting drugs and psychotropic substances to help protect the community.
In a separate incident, Dhofar Governorate Police Command arrested a person on suspicion of impersonating police officers, assaulting two Asian nationals and robbing them of cash and gold jewellery.
In another case, Muscat Governorate Police Command arrested an Arab national in connection with more than 60 incidents of online fraud.
According to the police, the suspect used bank accounts and telephone numbers belonging to people of the same nationality to advertise goods, services and properties for rent on social media, with the aim of taking payments made by victims.
