Ten students who were ‘adopted’ by siblings of the Henry family of Richland Park, were on Monday August 11, 2026 provided with back to school packages for the 2026 – 2027 school year. Additionally,70 other students, from Grade one to Grade six who attend the Richland Park Government School also received back-to-school packages from the Henry’s, many of whom no longer reside in that Marriaqua community.
“It is our way of giving back to the school we all went to,” said Paulina Henry-Thomas, speaking on behalf of the Henry family, some of whom did not make the trip to St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG). She said that the 10 students who were ‘adopted’ by herself and her siblings in the form of scholarships, will continue.
As for the additional 70 students, she said following conversations with school authorities, the Henry family decided to assist them, so the 70 students were selected by the school.
Henry-Thomas is hopeful that this gesture will further encourage the students to strive for better grades, “for who knows what we will come with next year,” she commented.
“We all have to help if the communities are to develop” One mother who did not want her name mentioned, said she and the other parents are happy because with the high cost of school books, uniforms, and other school supplies, the donations by the Henry family are most welcome and appreciated.
A father who collected for his son, was almost lost for words saying it is gestures such as these that give encouragement to others to try harder despite the challenges they face.
