ndonesia and France pledged to deepen trade and investment cooperation on Thursday by establishing a high-level business council, as President Prabowo Subianto and French President Emmanuel Macron sought to expand bilateral economic ties amid geopolitical and global economic uncertainty.
Meeting at the Élysée Palace in Paris on Thursday, the two leaders discussed cooperation across a range of sectors, including renewable energy, sustainable mining, agriculture, healthcare and downstream industries, while also backing stronger business partnerships and cross-border investment flows.
The talks marked the inaugural meeting of the High-Level France-Indonesia Business Council, a platform aimed at strengthening corporate ties and boosting investment cooperation in strategic sectors.
“I believe this is very important, and we welcome the participation and presence of French companies that continue to contribute to the Indonesian economy,” he said on Thursday in Paris.
Indonesia and France also agreed to support joint projects in innovation and technology, maritime affairs and critical minerals, areas increasingly viewed as central to global supply chain security and industrial policy.
The discussions come as Indonesia intensifies efforts to attract foreign investment into downstream processing industries and renewable energy development, while European countries seek to diversify economic partnerships in the Indo-Pacific region amid shifting geopolitical dynamics.
“In a world full of tension, uncertainty and conflict, the two countries can play a positive role,” Prabowo said.
