“Significant differences” remain between Iran and the United States on nuclear issues, reports Reuters citing a senior Iranian official. According to him, Tehran expects to conclude a preliminary agreement with Washington in the coming days and extend the ceasefire.
Extending the truce “will create space for further negotiations on lifting sanctions on Iran and paying compensation for military damage,” the Reuters source said. “In exchange for this, Iran will provide the international community with guarantees of the peaceful nature of its nuclear program,” the agency source added.
The possibility of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz depends on whether the United States adheres to the ceasefire, the Reuters source emphasized. He called any other statements about the progress of the negotiations a “distortion of the situation.”
