The economic crisis what threatens Dominican Republicas a result of the instability that causes the swings, upwards, of the oil pricesrequires responsible measures, as a whole, from its leadership, from society.
In a sustained manner, with ups and downs, the Dominican Republic maintains social, political and economic stability, enviable in the hemispheric context and leading in the region. Therefore, we are obliged to confront, as a society and with all our strength, these threats to avoid reversing the development path we are on. We are receiving the first effects of the crisis caused by the rise in oil prices. The measures announced to confront the crisis are designed in a way that distributes everyone’s sacrifice. But it also proposes a plan towards a reorganization of our productive and tax apparatus. And the government is constrained to be able to maintain assistance programs in favor of the most economically vulnerable sectors of the population. For this reason, the observation of the Minister of Finance and Economy, Magín Díaz, is correct that it is preferable to take containment measures today, rather than do so forced in the midst of the crisis, under social pressure. For this reason, the announced measures have received support from most sectors of society. At the other extreme, irresponsible and painfully, representatives of sectors of opposition partisan politics who seek, as usual, to fish in troubled waters, trying to act funny by inciting, with deception, the population against the status quo. Luckily, few believe them and even fewer pay attention to them.
