Lee inspects one of the houses.
MIRI (June 29): The repair works on the collapsed retaining walls affecting three houses at Hilltop Garden, Jalan 3A here has finally commenced 17 months after the landslide hit in January 2025.
Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin when inspecting the site on Monday said the project would require about one year to complete due to the complicated works involved.
“The contractor has informed that the remaining retaining wall will need to be taken down before rebuilding it, followed by other structural details,” he told reporters when met.
Lee said that before the works proceed further, he informed the contractor to temporarily provide a septic tank for the affected houses as the old septic tanks collapsed with the walls.
“They have waited for too long—the situation is worsening and affecting their livelihood,” he said.
The Senadin assemblyman added that the RM400,000 project is being funded by the state government’s Emergency Response Fund.
He said that aside from this site, three other locations were also in urgent need of repairs following landslides triggered by the monsoon season early in 2025, namely Riam Hills, Bumiko and Jalan Tang Lim.
“RM1 million has been approved to carry out repair works at all four sites.
“The affected sites pose serious safety risks to residents, and I hope repair works will be carried out as soon as possible,” he said.
