A total of 40 observers and specialists from nine missions and international electoral organizations were accredited to date to participate in the Regional and Municipal Elections 2026 (ERM 2026)which will take place this Sunday, October 4, reported the National Election Jury (JNE).
Among the international missions that will observe the process are the Organization of American States (OAS), the Inter-American Union of Electoral Organizations (Uniore), the Center for Electoral Advice and Promotion (Capel) and the Association of Electoral Magistrates of the Americas (AMEA).
Specialists from electoral organizations such as the National Electoral Directorate (DNE) of Argentina, the Electoral Institute of Mexico City (IECM), the Electoral Commission of the Philippines and the Central Electoral Commission of Russia. They will be joined by invited specialists from international organizations, including the Andean Parliament.
During their stay in the country, the delegations will develop coordination activities with electoral organizations and representatives of civil society. This Thursday, October 1, they will meet with the president of the JNE, Roberto Burneo Bermejoand will participate in an information day on the characteristics of the ERM 2026, the jurisdictional work of the organization and the logistical distribution procedure for electoral material.
Observers will also visit the Center for Electoral Strategy and Governance of the JNE and the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (EleccIA)inaugurated in April of this year as a technological innovation space aimed at jurisdictional and electoral management in Peru.
Likewise, they will go to the National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (Reniec) already Transparency Civil Association. In the first case they will receive information related to the ERM 2026 electoral roll, while in the second they will learn about aspects related to subnational electoral observation.
On Friday, October 2, observers and specialists will go to the warehouses of the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) to supervise the deployment of electoral material destined for Metropolitan Lima and Callao.
On Sunday, October 4, during the day of the 2026 Regional and Municipal Elections, the delegations will tour voting locations in the country as part of their observation tasks.
According to the JNE, electoral observation allows national and international institutions to collect information about the different phases of the electoral process and its results, with the aim of issuing their assessments in an impartial and objective manner.
