This project has an investment of S/500 million and its execution would allow the generation of more than 12 thousand direct and indirect jobs. With more than 83,000 square meters of commercial area, this initiative will mean a growth of 57% compared to the previous mall. The project will include a second level, more than 115 markings and 1,500 parking spaces.
“There will be a large free-access park, with water fountains, vegetation, rest areas, a pet area and a multi-use esplanade for cultural and wellness activations. Likewise, a new gastronomic boulevard is contemplated with a variety of restaurants with open terraces, financial services areas and a modern clinic that will have a separate entrance (…). Not only will the project promote the participation of local entrepreneurs, but it has been designed with high standards and good international practices.”he added.
It is estimated that construction will take place in two years, when the design stage—which they are currently in—is completed and all the corresponding permits are granted.
Merchants and entrepreneurs indicate that they hope to work inside or around the mall, while citizens have expressed their expectation of enjoying this recreational space again. However, the shock still persists over the tragedy that occurred in February, in which people died after the roof of the shopping center fell.

One of the owners of a business located in front of what was the Real Plaza de Trujilloat the height of Prolongación César Vallejo avenue, is Juan Carlos Namocwho in dialogue with The Commerce said that “Our sales were reduced by 50%. If you rent in front of a shopping center, you expect to benefit from the flow of people there. Many of the businesses could not hold on. There were huge losses and several went bankrupt”.
“We had to look at other strategies to try to get through this stage. For example, we strengthened our delivery channel. Thus, if clients did not reach us, we tried to reach them (…). It was not just one block, but the entire Prolongación César Vallejo avenue was affected”he added.
Namoc sees this project with optimism, since “finally there will be much greater dynamism in the area”.
Regarding the impact on other businesses, the director of Mypes Unidas del Perú, Daniel Hermoza Negreiroshe said to The Commerce that “The merchants who were around have not been able to cover their minimum expenses in recent months. The announcement means an opportunity to generate economy. We call on the authorities to act quickly to support the project”.

Hermoza Negreiros indicated that around the shopping center there were an average of 110 businesses of all types, which were harmed by the tragedy that occurred and the subsequent closure of the mall, which also caused them to lose almost 4 million soles as a whole. Therefore, this news gives them hope that they will soon be able to recover.
In relation to the tragedy, the vice president of Corporate Affairs of Real Plaza, Hernán Malpartidapointed to The Commerce that the tax investigation continues. “The prosecution must give us back the food court. This space, in legal terms, is seized. We trust that in the coming months they will return it to us. Beyond that, the important thing is the decision to invest and continue betting on Trujillo“, said.
“For this new project, we are going to submit all the documentation as appropriate to the municipal authorities, so that they can carry out the respective evaluation and start as soon as possible.”he added.
“From Real Plaza we know that what happened on February 21, 2025 marked a very difficult moment for the city and for many families. We understand it and we assume it with the corresponding responsibility. The new Real Plaza Trujillo will be the most modern shopping center in the country and will represent the highest investment made for a shopping center in Peru. We are fully aware of the context and what happened, as well as what this situation has meant for the city and for many families.“, he expressed to this newspaper.
More than a year has passed since the tragedy that occurred in Trujillo, in which the roof of the Real Plaza shopping center collapsed, leaving six dead and nearly 90 injured. Now, on that same land, the construction of a new mall was announced.
Regarding compensation, Malpartida assured that “They are already practically 100%. We only have two cases left; one in which the family has to agree on some aspects, and that of another affected. We trust that they will be resolved soon. In total we have attended an average of 180 cases”.
“We apologize, we are very sorry for what happened. Regarding safety, this is a completely new project that has been designed with international standards beyond the local ones, and in that way it will also be built and supervised“, said.
“Independent reviews, specialized supervision throughout execution and rigorous validation processes are being incorporated into each stage of the project. To date, the construction companies have not yet been defined, but we will work with companies that meet these demands and the best international practices.”, he concluded.
In the middle of a press conference, this new project was announced. The vice president of Corporate Affairs of Real Plaza, Hernán Malpartida, was present.
