The national qajak championship, which will be held in Nuuk, begins today, Wednesday 1 July, and lasts until 10 July. Peqatigiiffik Qajaq Nuuk is the organizer.
The Kayak Championship (QU) 2026 begins in Nuuk today and for the next ten days there will be plenty of entertainment for those staying in the city.
The population along the coast will also have the opportunity to follow the championships via KNR TV’s transmissions, according to the station’s broadcast schedule.
In connection with the opening of the qajak championship, there is today, Wednesday, a joint procession at 09.30, followed by a church service at 10.15. At 1 p.m., the championship will be officially opened in Inussivik, Peqatigiiffik Qajaq Nuuk informs.
Competition program
If you look more closely at the competition programme, it appears that competitions are held for participants aged from four to 99 years.
On the first two days – Wednesday and Thursday – indoor balance exercises on ropes are held.
From Friday 3 July, the sporting competitions on the water will begin.
Friday offers a short distance, Saturday individual kayak flipping, and Sunday there is a competition in transporting a qajaq on land with the kayak upside down, writes Peqatigiiffik Qajaq Nuuk.
On Monday, the kayakers have a rest day. On Tuesday 7 July, there will be a competition in kayak rowing with a harpoon, while on Wednesday there will be a team competition in kayak flipping. A long-distance kayak race is held on Thursday.
The championship ends on Friday 10 July with the team kayak crowning.
First on the day, it is children aged four to nine who have to be in action. Their competitions begin at 10:00, according to the program from Peqatigiiffik Qajaq Nuuk.
