In a time when the artificial intelligence rapidly transforms the labor market, education and daily life, Pontifical Catholic Mother and Teacher University (PUCMM) called this Saturday to place human dignity at the center of technological changes, during the investiture of 1,149 new professionals in its Santiago campus.
The message was raised by the rector of the academy, reverend father doctor Secilio Espinalwho took advantage of the institution’s 114th graduation to warn about the ethical challenges that accompany the development of new technologies.
Before hundreds of graduates and their families, he maintained that scientific progress must be accompanied by values capable of protecting people in a time of profound transformations.
The reflection was linked to the encyclical Magnificent Humanitas of the Pope Leo XIVa document that addresses the social doctrine of the Church in the face of the emergence of artificial intelligence.

According to Espinal, the current context demands professionals prepared to innovate, but also committed to social responsibility and respect for the human condition.
The university also took advantage of the stage to highlight one of the most important academic achievements recently achieved by Dominican students.
A Computer Science Engineering team won first place in the Huawei ICT Global Competition 2025-2026, held in China, becoming the first representation of Latin America and the Caribbean in winning the highest award in that international competition.
The ceremony also evidenced the growing weight of women in the university classrooms. Of the newly invested professionals, 66% are female, while a quarter of the graduates completed their studies with the support of total scholarships or partial, a figure that reflects the access of different social sectors to higher education.
During the event, the executive president of Banreservas, Leonardo Aguileraurged the graduates to assume with discipline the beginning of their professional life and avoid anxiety about achieving immediate results. The executive recalled that success requires time, perseverance and the ability to overcome learning stages.
The day was also marked by the graduation of the first classes of Environmental Engineering, the Master’s in Cybersecurity and the Specialty in Cardiac Imaging, programs that respond to new demands from the labor market and the health sector.
With this investiture, the PUCMM exceeds 105 thousand graduates since its foundation, consolidating its position as one of the main institutions of higher education of the country.
