A boy died today in one of the elementary schools near Velika Gorica in Croatia after he began to suffocate during recess, Croatian media reported.
According to unofficial information, it is supposed to be a 9-year-old student of the second grade. According to the head of emergency medical services Siniše Goluba the boy allegedly choked on a donut during recess. He is said to have bitten off an oversized bite that he inhaled, resulting in a complete blockage of the airway.
After receiving the notification, the rescuers immediately went to the scene; they had about ten kilometers to school. Two emergency medical teams intervened. According to Golub, they tried all available procedures to help the boy.
School staff should only be able to perform CPR, which is often insufficient when the airway is completely blocked.
Despite the rapid arrival of rescuers and attempts to revive the child, it was not possible to help the child. The authorities have not yet officially confirmed the circumstances of the accident.
