Dr. Mahmoud Anbar, Professor of Economics, confirmed that the Decent Life Initiative is one of the most important global development initiatives over the past hundred years, given the size of the target groups and the sectors it includes. He pointed out that the initiative received wide international praise, led by the United Nations, due to its effective role in improving the quality of life and changing the face of the Egyptian countryside.
Reducing development gaps and enhancing investment
Mahmoud Anbar, professor of economics, explained in a phone call via Extra News channel that the initiative succeeded in reducing the large development gaps between rural and urban areas, and between the different governorates and the capital, which have continued for many years.
Mahmoud Anbar added that developing infrastructure and basic services in the villages most in need contributed to halting the rates of exodus to cities and creating an attractive climate for local investments, which strengthened the solidity and flexibility of the Egyptian economy in the face of external shocks.
Economic empowerment and human cadre building
Mahmoud Anbar stressed that what distinguishes “A Decent Life” is its focus on building human cadres and applying the concept of the “knowledge economy,” as the initiative aims to transform young people from job seekers into owners of small and micro enterprises.
Mahmoud Anbar stressed that this strategy contributed to increasing the gross domestic product and expanding the tax base by integrating these projects into the formal economy, which reflects positively on all macroeconomic indicators.
Empowering women…the key to human development
Regarding women’s empowerment, Dr. Mahmoud Anbar indicated that the initiative pays special attention to the economic empowerment of rural women, as it is the basic foundation for their political and social empowerment, explaining that women’s empowerment is one of the most important internationally recognized human development standards, which is what the initiative seeks to achieve to ensure women’s effective participation in the comprehensive development process that Egypt is witnessing.
