The ceremony paid tribute to the events of April 30, 1863 in Mexico, when a small group of legionaries resisted against overwhelming odds, becoming a lasting symbol of honour, loyalty and sacrifice.
This year’s theme, “The Nobility to Serve,” highlighted the unique commitment of legionnaires who dedicate themselves to defending a nation not their own. The Sovereign’s presence reflects the deep historical ties between Monaco and the Foreign Legion, dating back in particular to Prince Louis II, who served in its ranks in the early 20th century.
Welcomed to the Viénot district, Prince Albert II attended a formal military ceremony including a troop review, parade and honours to the Legion’s standard. At the conclusion of the event, he was awarded the rank of Honorary Corporal of the Foreign Legion, underlining the strength and continuity of this longstanding relationship.
During the same ceremony, Mélanie-Antoinette de Massy was also decorated with the FSALE medal in recognition of her commitment to supporting the Friends of the Foreign Legion.
