Popular vlogger Jaii Frais, whose given name is Jhaedee Richards, is among three people in hospital following a shooting incident at carnival after-party Big Wall, which was held at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre last night.
Also in hospital are 39-year-old Jeremy Watson and 36-year-old Trevor Twaite.
They sustained gunshot wounds, some more serious than others, during the incident and were transported to the University Hospital of the West Indies for treatment.
It is understood that Richards’ injuries are not life-threatening.
Police sources indicate he was struck in the leg, sustaining what has been described as a superficial wound.
Initial reports suggested that Richards was attacked by an entourage and subsequently discharged a firearm, hitting at least one person.
It is understood that during the melee, he managed to discharge someone.
The Gleaner understands that he is not a licensed firearm holder.
Investigators are continuing to piece together the circumstances surrounding the shooting as part of the investigation.
Meanwhile, Big Wall, in a statement, expressed concern and extended support to those affected.
“We are deeply saddened and troubled by the incident that occurred this evening, where a patron discharged a firearm and injured persons. Our hearts are with those injured, their families, and everyone who was present and affected,” the statement said.
The organisers emphasised that the safety of patrons remains a priority.
“The safety of our patrons, staff, and partners is and has always been paramount. We are cooperating fully with the Jamaica Constabulary Force as they lead the investigation and will provide any support needed to ensure accountability.”
They described the shooting as an isolated incident, stating that it does not reflect the event’s longstanding record.
“For over a decade, we have built a safe, inclusive, and world-class carnival experience with an unblemished record of safety and professionalism. We will not allow one individual’s actions to define us.”
The organisers further apologised to patrons and sponsors, acknowledging that the incident disrupted what is typically a celebratory experience.
