“According to currently available information”, four people were killed in a plane crash in Medulin, on Croatia’s northwestern Istrian peninsula, police said in a statement.
The accident happened outside the city limits, and all emergency services are working at the scene, it added.
The National Association of Fire Fighters reported that at 11 a.m. Thursday morning. 19 minutes local (12:19 Lithuanian) time, received a report about a crash near the Medulin sports airfield.
Seven firefighters with three fire engines, three ambulance crews, a helicopter ambulance team and police were sent to the scene, the association said on Facebook.
Local media, showing images of the crash site in an uninhabited area near the airfield, said two more people were still being sought.
According to state broadcaster HRT, a small aircraft registered in Germany crashed after taking off from Austria and flying to Medulin.
More details and information about the accident are expected later Thursday when investigators from the National Air, Marine and Rail Accident Investigation Agency (AIN) arrive.
