Parreira’s lung condition improves, but remains in the ICU – 06/19/2026 – Sports

According to the note released by the hospital this Friday (19), Parreira still needs intensive care.

Suffering from lung inflammation, the former trainer is sedated and breathing with the aid of equipment. It is stable and continues to have no forecast for an increase.

In a press conference on Monday, the defender Danilofrom the Seleção, expressed support for the former coach’s family. Zinho, former four-times champion midfielder with Parreira in 1994, was among the journalists at the press conference and did the same.

“The situation is not the best, but I believe it. The fans are in this sense. Vanessa, who is his daughter, told me that he really had a complication in the lung. He is hospitalized and had to be intubated. He is stable”, said the former midfielder to the website 365Score.

In 2024, Parreira underwent chemotherapy for treatment of a Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Commander of Brazil’s campaign for the fourth championship World cup 1994, Parreira participated via video in Carlo Ancelotti’s presentation at the CBF (Brazilian Confederation of Soccer), last year. He was in the United States and welcomed the arrival of the Italian, on recording.

Parreira was a physical trainer for the tri team, led by Zagallo in 1970, and coach of the tetra, in 1994. The duo returned to the national team in 2006 — Parreira as coach and Zagallo as an assistant.

Parreira was also on the technical committee of the 2014 World Cup, in which Luiz Felipe Scolari was the coach.

In addition to the four World Cups in which he accompanied Brazil, he coached Kuwait in 1982, the United Arab Emirates in 1990, Saudi Arabia in 1998 and South Africa in 2010.
