The recent signing of a professional Football contract for Tyrique Kevonte Clarke, commonly called “Ty”, with Inter Toronto’s first team in the Canadian Premier League is a major accomplishment for the Canadian- Vincentian.
As it stands Ty has signed a multi- year professional contract that guarantees him through the 2028 Canadian Premier League season, and includes club options for 2029 and 2030.
Ty, who turned 18 in January, 2026 thus became one of the latest graduates of the Inter Toronto Pathway to earn a long-term place in the First Team.
His accomplishment is a feather in the caps of those who made critical inputs into his development.
A home-grown footballer who got the foundation here in St Vincent and the Grenadines, Ty seemed destined for this stage of his football development, as from a tender age, he has exhibited that potential.
Honing his skills in the streets of Paul’s Avenue, the Bishop’s College grounds as well as the Richmond Hill Playing Field, Ty was conspicuous.
With guidance and unrelenting support from his father- Neto, Ian Sardine, as well as the late Lamont Hector,Ty bloomed over time.
Representing the System Three Sports Academy, Ty dominated in the various age groups that he contested.
He disrupted the status quo by representing the St Vincent Grammar School at the Junior level in the Secondary Schools’ Tournament, on entry into that institution as a Form One student in 2019.
Prior, he was one of two selectees who benefitted from a training stint in England in 2017.
Again, these were early signs that Ty had within him the prowess to take his abilities to the next level.
Following his migration to Canada, he joined the Toronto FC Academy for two seasons, then progressed to Toronto FC’s Under-18 team, and also earned opportunities to train with Toronto FC II during the 2024-25 season.
In between, Ty returned to represent St Vincent and the Grenadines at the Under-17 and Under-20 levels, rising to captain the latter outfit.
A senior national debut in March of this year, topped off the incremental progress of Ty’s Football journey thus far.
However, it is instructive that his successes to this stage, have hinged on Ty’s personal desires to succeed and realise some of his childhood dreams.
But most rewarding, Ty defied the stigma that is often associated with his Paul’s Avenue upbringing.
Hence, it is a good lesson of getting past what is the perception of locales that carry an anti- social tag line.
Overarching though are the benefits of working hard, staying focused, listening to the right persons and filtering advice that is pertinent.
But as we celebrate Ty’s inking of the deal with the Canadian club, the journey for him has just begun.
This, as maintaining a place in the first team consistently would be harder than getting to that juncture in the first place.
Therefore, the onus is on Ty to continue that which has brought him thus far, as there is no room for complacency and slacking.
At 18, there are many years of professional football ahead of him, but that can be only achieved through a dint of hard work, commitment, and staying as healthy as much as he can control the variables.
It cannot over-stated that professional sport is glued by a thin thread, as many things can go wrong, and a potential cut short.
That is the said reason that professional sports people always make haste while the sun shines and activate other safety nets and fall -back systems, to buffer any unplanned detours.
For now, congrats Ty and family, his agents and all who have mapped out his football and life course from birth to now.
