The 22-year-old tennis player from Murcia injured his right wrist last week during the ATP 500 series in Barcelona.
After more detailed investigations, it turned out that the injury is more serious than expected, and on Friday, C. Alcaraz announced on social networks that he was withdrawing from the tournaments in Rome and Paris.
“After today’s research results, we have decided that it is wisest to be cautious and not participate in the Rome and Roland Garros championships. Now we need to wait and evaluate our progress, and then we could decide on the exact date of returning to the tennis courts. This is a very difficult period for me, but I believe that I will come back even stronger,” the Spaniard wrote.
Carlitos, who won both the Rome Masters and the French Open last year, will lose a total of 3,000 ATP ranking points, but should not fall below the second position.
It is true that there is talk in the tennis world that C. Alcaraz may need surgery, and past examples with Juan Martin Del Potro and Dominic Thiem show that wrist injuries can become very dangerous and completely disrupt careers.
