The municipality of Óbuda is proposing the inclusion of Hadrian’s Palace, located on Hajógyári Island in Budapest, and the Hungarian section of the Danube Limes on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
László Kiss, mayor of Óbuda-Békásmegyer, emphasized at a press conference held on Hajógyári Island on Tuesday: the application is based on earlier technical documentation prepared back in 2018 by archaeologist and museologist Zsolt Visy and his team, with the involvement of numerous experts and professional organizations; however, inclusion on the list was thwarted due to political decisions.

Visy expressed his hope that the new government would recognize the significance of this inclusion and the importance of what it means for Hungary to be part of the major international system that comes with being listed on the World Heritage List.
