Director of Information at the Ministry of Energy and Renewable Energies, Khalil Hadna, confirmed on Wednesday that the technical fault that affected the electrical facility in Sidi Okba in the state of Biskra was an exceptional accident that was brought under control in a short time, adding that the electricity supply situation is currently stable.
The official explained in a statement To the news agency The Algerian newspaper said that the damage recorded late on Tuesday evening was mainly caused by energy consumption rising to high levels.
Energy installations have been operating at full capacity for weeks, due to the heat wave and extreme humidity experienced in several areas of the country. “Which led to this exceptional accident, which was controlled very efficiently and in a short time,” the spokesman added.
The accident resulted in a power outage in a number of municipalities across 16 states, before “the situation was remedied in record time, after besieging the site of the damage, and carrying out demand balancing operations.”
The electricity supply was restored at the level of the various municipalities concerned, gradually. With stability recorded in the situation starting at four in the morning, he says a truce.
The spokesman did not rule out “isolated” outages that were not related to the accident. He called on citizens to report any power outage, in order to intervene immediately to address it.

Last Monday, the Ministry of Energy and Renewable Energies announced that a new peak in electricity consumption had been recorded in Algeria, for the second day in a row, after reaching the level of 21,378 megawatts.
The recording of this new peak, at 15:30 pm on Monday, July 13, coincided with the intense heat wave witnessed in several regions of the country.
On Sunday, July 12, the peak electrical energy consumption reached 21,176 megawatts at 3:00 p.m.
