The administrators at the St. Vincent and the Grenadines National Public Library and Documentation Centre are expecting a reduction in the monthly electricity bill following the installation of a solar photovoltaic (PV) system at the facility.
Director of the National Public Library, Michelle King-Campbell, said the project is expected to reduce the library’s electricity consumption, allowing more of its financial resources to be directed towards library services and programmes. Speaking with the Agency for Public Information (API), King-Campbell said the library has faced high electricity costs for some time.
“We have always had exorbitant light bills…a lot of our funds went into paying the electricity bill.”
She said the installation of the solar panels is expected to ease that financial burden.
King-Campbell said the money previously spent on electricity can now be redirected to other areas of the library’s operations. She explained that the savings could be used to purchase additional reading materials, particularly children’s books, as well as support the expansion of programmes offered by the library. King-Campbell also expressed appreciation to those involved in making the project possible.
“We want to thank the energy unit for this initiative and also for partnering with us,” she said.
