News.am: – Narek Karapetyan, a member of the “Strong Armenia” bloc, filed a lawsuit against the Investigative Committee.
Karapetyan asks the court to oblige the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia to publicly deny the factual information expressed and considered defamatory in the same way that it spread the slander: “The candidate for the deputy of the “Strong Armenia” alliance hid the information about having foreign citizenship, which hinders him from obtaining the status of an official”, obliging him within five working days after the court’s decision becomes legally effective on the website www.investigative.am, Facebook page of the Respondent and Telegram publish the following disclaimer in user accounts.
“On 20.05.2026, the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia made a publication regarding the leader of the “Strong Armenia” alliance, Narek Karapetyan, with which false information was presented, through which a fact was attributed to the latter that did not correspond to reality and had no connection with the latter. We inform the public that this information was completely defamatory, false and groundless, for which the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia apologizes.”
Karapetyan demands that the Investigative Committee confiscate 1 (one) AMD in his favor as compensation for defamation.
According to the “Copyright and Related Rights” Law, the reproduction of extracts from news materials should not reveal the essential part of the news material. When reproducing excerpts from news materials on the website, it is mandatory to indicate the name of the media outlet in the title of the excerpt, and it is also mandatory to insert an active link to the website.
