Municipal beat Deportivo Mixco 2-0 at the Santo Domingo de Guzmán Stadium in the first leg of the Clausura 2026 semifinals, in a match that started balanced in the first half but that the capital’s residents resolved forcefully in the second half with goals from Rodrigo Saravia in the 51st minute and Pedro Altán in the 74th minute. Municipal thus takes a significant advantage ahead of Saturday’s second leg at El Trébol.
The first half was stagnant and goalless, with both teams measuring their strength and failing to find clarity in the rival area. Mixco had some prominence in the first minutes but Municipal was the team that generated the most dangerous chances with shots from César Calderón and Erik López that did not find a destination. At half-time the score was still at zero in a match that was expected to be resolved in the second half.
The second half was completely different. Municipal came out with greater intensity and in the 51st minute Rodrigo Saravia opened the scoring with a shot that beat Kevin Moscoso to make it 0-1. Mixco tried to react with several changes but could not find the way to the goal and in the 74th minute Pedro Altán took advantage of an error by Kenner Lemus at the start to receive the pass from John Méndez and define the far post for the final 0-2 that practically sentenced the series in favor of the Reds.
Municipal arrives favorite on the return
With the 2-0 as a result, Municipal arrives at Saturday’s second leg at El Trébol in a very comfortable position. Fabricio Benítez’s Chicharroneros will need to win by three goals or more to qualify directly for the final, a mission that seems very complicated against a Municipal team that has proven to be the most solid team in Clausura 2026.
Mixco will have to play a historic match in El Trébol to overcome a disadvantage that seems difficult to overcome. The Chicharroneros reached the semifinals with the motivation of their comeback against Cobán Imperial but this Wednesday they could not replicate that performance against a Municipal team that was superior in the decisive moments of the match.
The second leg will be played this Saturday at the Manuel Felipe Carrera El Trébol Stadium, where Municipal will play at home with the support of its fans and with the advantage of two goals that places them as the clear favorite to advance to the grand final of Clausura 2026 and continue in the search for title number 33 in their history.
