Yesterday, Wednesday, joint detachments of the People’s National Army were able to thwart a smuggling operation of more than 80 kilograms of “cocaine” and arrest 4 people in the territory of the Tamanrasset Military Sector in the 6th Military Region.
A statement by the Ministry of National Defense said on Thursday that the operation, which came within the framework of combating smuggling and organized crime and securing national borders, resulted in the elimination of a smuggler and the arrest of four other gunmen.
The operation also enabled the seizure of more than 80 kilograms of cocaine, which was loaded onto three utility vehicles.
The operation also resulted in the recovery of an FMPK machine gun and a Kalashnikov machine gun, along with a significant amount of ammunition and four mobile phones.
The statement stressed that this qualitative operation reflects the effectiveness of field efforts in combating smuggling networks and organized crime, in addition to the vigilance of People’s National Army units and their determination to thwart attempts to bring drugs into the country.
