Turkey coach Vincenzo Montella said his team would go home with their heads held high.
Turkey won 3:2 against the USA in the last group game. But it was unlikely even before the match started, due to the losses in the first two matches.
“We can go home with our heads held high,” said Montella. “Football hurts, but I got emotional at the end of the match. Tonight’s match is worth more than 1000 victories”, added the Italian technician.
He added that Turkey created enough chances during the World Cup, but was not clinical enough.
However, he did not blame certain players for the missed opportunities. According to Montella, Turkey lacked luck in the first two matches.
Turkey has waited 24 years for World Cup qualification. He even secured the qualification in Pristina, with a very difficult victory over Kosovo in the playoff final.
