The steps taken by the Georgian diplomatic service are fruitful. First of all, this decision by Nauru is welcome. We responded to this decision and expressed our readiness to establish diplomatic relations with Nauru and talk about advancing bilateral relations, which is important for us, – Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili stated on Imedi TV, thus responding to Nauru’s decision to revoke the recognition of the so-called independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
According to the minister, Georgia’s policy of non-recognition of the occupied regions requires constant work and occupies an important place on the agenda of the country’s diplomatic service.
“Georgia has a firm policy when it comes to the occupied regions, a policy of non-recognition, although this is not an easy task. There are daily attempts by Russia to ensure that their policy of recognizing the independence of the so-called Abkhazia and South Ossetia is successful. They are taking steps that require constant attention and constant work, including with our partners, to ensure that the policy of non-recognition is successful. In this case, the Georgian diplomatic service has indeed achieved significant results and this is gratifying. We continue to work in other directions as well. There are still other states, albeit small in number, but still there are states that recognize the independence of the so-called Abkhazia and South Ossetia republics. Of course, this is actively on the agenda of our diplomatic service, to work in this direction,” the Minister of Foreign Affairs noted.
Maka Botchorishvili also responded to the assessments made by opponents on this issue and highlighted the efforts made by the Georgian diplomatic service.
“This is a personal demonstration of how you cannot rejoice in the success of your own country. How you can work and be against your own country, to evaluate this important step differently and not recognize this important step as achieved through the efforts of your country’s government. We are really working with partners, we are working with everyone with whom we have the opportunity to achieve our goal. I really do not have information about who did what , I know what the Georgian diplomatic service did and I can really say with confidence that this is a great merit of the daily work of Georgian diplomats, including with partners and in this case with those specific parties through whom this decision was made by the state of Nauru,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maka Botchorishvili.
