In the middle of her tour of Europe, the Venezuelan leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner, María Corina Machado, held a meeting this Wednesday in The Hague with the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Rob Jetten. The central axis of the meeting was the need to maintain global attention on Venezuela, highlighting that the conflict exceeds commercial or energy interest.
During the session, Prime Minister Jetten emphasized that support for Venezuela should not be conditioned on economic interests. “It’s not just oil, it’s about people and democracy,” said the Dutch president. Likewise, Jetten made public recognition of the persistence of Venezuelan citizens, stating: “I value their fight for freedom, for their families and companions.”
Prime Minister Rob Jetten received María Corina Machado in The Hague to coordinate international actions in favor of Venezuelan democracy, highlighting that these must be based on the well-being of the people and not commercial interests.
For his part, Machado explained the urgency of coordinated action in the face of what he described as more than two decades of political and social crisis.
«We need your voices, because for Venezuelans this is 26 years of suffering. With Chávez, with Maduro and today too,” said the leader, urging international allies not to reduce the intensity of diplomatic support.
The Official Spokesperson of the opposition movement detailed that the conversation focused on three strategic pillars: transatlantic coordination, where Jetten mentioned previous contacts with Donald Trump to articulate support; the promotion of new pressure actions from the European Union and the formal recognition of the defenders of democratic values in the region.
To Spain, but without Sánchez
María Corina Machado is expected to arrive this Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning in Spain, where she will meet with several political figures from the Iberian country.
However, Machado said that he is not going to meet with the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, during his visit to Spain this week because that meeting “at this moment is not convenient.”
«Everything I have done in these long years has always been privileging the higher objective of the freedom of Venezuela. “Which is convenient for the purposes of accelerating at this time a transition and the return of Venezuelans home,” Machado explained in an interview with the Spanish radio station COPE released this Wednesday.
«At certain times it is appropriate and at others it is not appropriate certain meetings for this objective. Therefore, at this moment that meeting is not planned,” she added when asked about a possible meeting with Sánchez.
