Ljubljana Slovan to the fourth cup title in water polo
The water polo players of Ljubljana Slovan are this year’s winners of the Slovenian cup competition. In the final match in Kamnik, they defeated the team Koper – Hanna with 15:7 (4:2, 3:3, 5:0, 3:3) and enjoyed the cup laurels for the fourth time.
Juret Škof’s proteges, who could not lead the match from the bench due to a penalty, opened the final with a bang and took a three-point lead. In the second part of the game, the Koper players scored a few times from behind, but when the sides changed sides, the water polo players from the capital were still in the lead with 7:5.
An extraordinary third quarter followed, which the water polo players from the Slovenian capital won with 5:0. In the last quarter, they didn’t let the Koper team get close, and the celebration of the Ljubljana team at the Pod Skalo pool could begin.
For the new cup champions, Matija Bernard Čanč scored four goals, Enej Potočnik and Luka Ćetković added three each. Gašper Fičur scored just as many for Koper.
The absolute record holder for the number of cup titles is Triglav from Kranj, which has won this competition 21 times so far. Koper remains with seven titles, while Branik Maribor and Calcit from Kamniš also celebrated once.
