Iranian Foreign Minister for talks with Putin in Moscow
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has arrived in Russia, according to Iranian media reports. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov had previously confirmed in an interview with Russian state agencies that President Vladimir Putin wanted to meet with Araghchi. He did not give any further details. Shortly before, the Foreign Ministry in Moscow had also reported Aragchi’s upcoming visit. The Iranian ambassador to Moscow, Kasem Jalali, also confirmed the meeting to the Iranian news agency Isna. The topic of the talks was efforts to end the Iran war.
Moscow and Tehran are strategic allies, but Russia is not prepared to support its partner militarily in the current conflict with the USA. First and foremost, Tehran receives diplomatic support from the Kremlin.
On Sunday, Araghchi traveled to Islamabad for a short visit to once again convey Iranian conditions for ending the war to Pakistani mediators, the Tasnim news agency reported. It is still unclear when and whether there will be a new round of negotiations with the USA in Pakistan.
