Licensing: There is no increase in fees for private electric cars.. These are the details of the new system

Director of the Drivers and Vehicles Licensing Department, Brigadier General Engineer Omar Al-Qur’an, confirmed that the new system for vehicle licensing came into effect immediately after its publication in the Official Gazette on Thursday evening, as the service was activated directly at various licensing sites and comprehensive government services, including evening and mobile licensing services in the governorates.

He said during a radio intervention that citizens can now benefit from the new periods for renewing vehicle licenses starting from the date of their review and not just from the expiry date of the previous license, indicating that the aim of this is to give the citizen a longer period to benefit from insurance and maintain the public safety of vehicles on the roads.

He added that the new system is not related to reducing fees, but rather to a more fair method of calculating the period, as the additional fees are calculated based on the number of actual days and not as a full year, stressing that this ensures that the citizen is not charged any undeserved fees.

Al-Qar’an pointed out that technological development has greatly contributed to accelerating the completion of transactions compared to previous years, pointing out that opening the evening licensing door in several locations has made it easier for citizens who are unable to visit official departments during regular working hours.

Al-Qur’an confirmed that evening licensing services will gradually expand in conjunction with the opening of comprehensive government service centers in various governorates, noting that these centers operate until seven in the evening in addition to Saturday hours, allowing citizens to complete their transactions outside official working hours.

Al-Qur’an explained that the new instructions for technical inspection of vehicles included exempting private passenger vehicles, in addition to taxis, shared transport vehicles, double cabins and minibuses, from technical inspection during the first five years of the vehicle’s life, provided that the inspection is carried out after that every two years according to the even and odd system linked to the last number on the vehicle’s plate.

Al-Qar’an denied that there was any increase in licensing fees for private electric cars, stressing that the new fees were only applied to the category of electric vehicles and electric vans for shared transportation, in order to fill a legislative vacuum due to the absence of previously specified fees for this category of vehicles.

He pointed out that the licensing fees for private electric passenger cars have not been modified, calling on citizens to be accurate and not be led by false information circulating on social media sites.

Regarding the practical driving examination appointment service, Al-Qar’an explained that the new system allows the applicant to bring the examination date closer together for a fee that varies according to the duration, amounting to 100 dinars for the examination on the same day, 50 dinars for the next day, and 25 dinars for the third and fourth days, while approximating the appointment becomes free after that if vacancies are available.

He stressed that this service does not include re-examination for those who failed, explaining that whoever fails the practical examination has the right to object according to legal procedures through a special committee and with a fee of only 20 dinars, and not 100 dinars as is rumored.

Al-Quran called on citizens to renew their vehicle license 30 days before the expiration of the license period in order to benefit from the full period without losing any days, in addition to benefiting from the incentives granted to drivers who have not committed violations, which include a 15% discount on insurance and 25% on license fees.
