Lebanese President Joseph Aoun stated that negotiation is a safer option compared to war and that they will not step back from the negotiation process with Israel.
In his statement, Avn said, “Negotiation is safer than war. We have seen and continue to see the destruction and consequences of war. However, negotiation does not solve problems instantly; it is a process that requires time and we have no other option.” he said.
Emphasizing that negotiation should not be seen as surrender or concession, Avn stated that it is a way to end wars with the least possible damage.
Noting that the Lebanese administration will not give up on the negotiation option, Avn said, “Negotiations may be disrupted from time to time or delayed in reaching the goal we want to achieve, but the process is progressing. Ultimately, all problems are solved through negotiation, no matter how long it takes. War, on the other hand, does not bring results for any party.” he said.
Pointing out that the contacts with Israel are a long-term process, Avn stated that all parties are striving for a solution and that war will not benefit any party.
While Israel’s intense air strikes against Lebanon continue despite the ceasefire that came into force on April 17, the fourth round of negotiations is planned to be held tomorrow between Israeli and Lebanese delegations in the US capital, Washington.
On the other hand, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently ordered the army to carry out air strikes in the Dahiye region south of Beirut, the capital of Lebanon.
