A motorcyclist was seriously injured this Saturday, June 20, after a log dragged by a landslide fell on him at kilometer 24 of the Inter-American route, in the jurisdiction of Mixco, where vile complications were reported due to the obstruction of lanes.
Departmental Municipal Firefighters reported that the accident occurred in the lanes leading from the capital to the west of the country, where the landslide mobilized at least two large logs that ended up on the road.
According to the lifeguards, one of the logs directly hit the motorcyclist when he was traveling through the sector, causing him to become trapped under the heavy structure.
Rescue elements worked for several minutes to free the victim, who was later stabilized at the scene and transferred in critical condition to Roosevelt Hospital. So far, his identity has not been released.
The landslide also generated complications in vehicular circulation. The logs and fallen material blocked two lanes of the route, causing congestion and long lines of vehicles heading west.
Drivers reported slow traffic in the area while rescue teams and authorities coordinated efforts to remove obstacles and restore traffic.
Firefighters recommended motorists reduce speed, maintain distance between vehicles and follow the instructions of the authorities, due to the risk of new landslides due to the terrain conditions.
The authorities did not rule out that the rains recorded in the last few hours may have contributed to the landslide, so monitoring is maintained in the sector to prevent other incidents.
