Labour Ministry developing specific, secure and healthy Labour Housing Project for legal expatriate workers

‎The Ministry of Labor and Rehabilitation said last Sunday (25 May) that it is continuing to work to strengthen the plan of the Labour Housing Project for legal expatriate workers through the employer, in accordance with organizational, security and health controls and under the supervision of the competent authorities.‎

‎The project aims to reduce informal housing, regulate the residence of expatriate workers, and facilitate inventory and follow-up processes in order to enhance security and organization within cities.‎

Explaining the concept of organised workers’ housing, the Ministry said this is a private service-oriented housing facility designated for expatriate workers with legal residency status. Workers pays a fee for the accommodation, which is managed by local companies in accordance with regulatory, security, and health standards, under the supervision of the relevant authorities.

Workers’ Housing targets expatriate workers with legal residency status who have undergone medical examinations and who entered the country through official ports of entry.

The objectives of Workers’ Housing include enhancing the collection of state revenues including taxes, electricity, water, and services.

It also facilitates the return of workers to their home countries after the end of their employment period through official ports of entry thus contributing to combating the settlement of foreign workers in Libya beyond their contracts.

The Workers’ Housing Project also reduces informal housing within residential neighbourhoods and facilitates their registration and monitoring processes.

The ministry said Workers’ Housing Projects will be located away from urban population centers, in accordance with clear regulatory requirements, and under the supervision of the relevant authorities.
