“We have landed in Azerbaijan,” the official said, adding that the purpose of the visit was “security and energy cooperation and coordination.”
Before that, the Ukrainian leader visited Saudi Arabia, where he held talks on security issues with the de facto ruler of this country, the heir to the throne, Mohammed bin Salman.
Kyiv and Baku maintain warm relations, and after the Russian invasion in 2022, Azerbaijan repeatedly expressed support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sent humanitarian aid.
Meanwhile, relations between Moscow and Baku have soured over the past year, especially after a Russian anti-aircraft missile mistakenly hit an Azerbaijani airliner in 2024, killing 38 people.
