KUWAIT CITY, Jun 10: Kuwait Customs authorities have intercepted a major narcotics smuggling attempt involving a shipment of personal belongings arriving from the United Kingdom, officials confirmed.
The operation was carried out in line with directives from His Excellency the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, and in the presence of senior customs officials, including the Head of the General Administration of Customs, Mr. Yousef Khaled Al-Nuwaif, and the Deputy Head for Ports, Search, and Customs Investigation Affairs, Mr. Saleh Mohammed Al-Omar.
Acting in close coordination with the Ministry of Interior’s General Administration for Drug Control, customs officers at the Air Cargo Customs Department inspected a shipment consisting of three suitcases declared as personal effects. Upon inspection, officers discovered large quantities of illegal narcotics concealed inside.
Authorities seized approximately 63 kilograms of hashish, 9 kilograms of cocaine, and 14 kilograms of marijuana, bringing the total haul to 86 kilograms of narcotics.
The General Administration of Customs said the seizure reflects its ongoing efforts to strengthen border security, tighten inspection procedures at all entry points, and prevent attempts to smuggle banned substances into the country. Officials stressed that such operations are essential to protecting public safety and reinforcing national security.
Following the seizure, legal procedures were initiated immediately, and a formal report was prepared. The confiscated drugs were referred to the General Directorate for Drug and Alcohol Control under the Ministry of Interior, which will complete the necessary investigations and legal action.
