The deadline for the election of the President of Kosovo is coming to an end, while the political parties have not yet reached an agreement on the candidate and the election process.
The Constitutional Court has defined October 6 as the deadline by which the Assembly must complete the process of electing the President. If this does not happen, the country may go to new elections.
In recent days, the chairman of PDK, Bedri Hamza, and the chairman of LDK, Lumir Abdixhiku, have met with Prime Minister Albin Kurti. However, after the meetings, no details about the discussions were made public.
Until now, there is no political agreement on the election of the President, while it remains unclear whether the political subjects will reach a consensus within the constitutional deadline.
In a statement for Front Online, the deputy of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Adnan Rrustemi, called for political cooperation, saying that Kosovo does not need new elections.
“Kosovo needs a president, not an election. I wish that the opposition has given up the blockade”, said Rrustemi.
According to him, the current situation requires political cooperation to guarantee institutional stability.
“We don’t need elections, but cooperation to give the country stability. Especially now when we are facing the challenge of the Special Court”, he said.
Ramadani: Kosovo must elect the President within the deadline
The MP of the Alliance, Burim Ramadani, has stated that Kosovo must complete the process of electing the President within the constitutional deadline, on October 6.
He said that the election of the President would affect the stabilization of institutions.
“I am convinced of one thing: Kosovo must elect the President! This would help stabilize the institutions and then develop the political and social debate about the great change that must happen”, Ramadani declared.
On the other hand, he criticized the current government, describing it as “the power of crisis and institutional chaos”.
“What is becoming clear is that the current government is a government of crises and institutional chaos. I expect that the government of crises will once again lead Kosovo to elections”, Ramadani said.
Demhasaj: Kurti aims at the elections, meetings with the opposition to find the culprit
Political analyst Arton Demhasaj has stated that Prime Minister Albin Kurti is not interested in the election of the President, but in sending the country to the elections.
“Kurti’s goal is to bring the country to the elections. He has never been interested in giving the country President”, Demhasaj declared.
According to him, Kurti’s meetings with PDK and LDK are aimed at creating a situation where the opposition can be blamed for the failure of the process.
“Meetings with PDK and LDK were only to try to find a culprit to blame when sending the country to elections. There is no indication that Kurti is interested in the President and not in elections”, he said.
Demhasaj also claimed that the citizens are understanding this approach of the prime minister and that the LVV may face political costs.
“The people are gradually becoming aware, they are seeing the tactic of Kurti who kept me for almost a full governing mandate but as an acting president and sent the country to the elections. For this, the punishment of the people has begun, because of his stubbornness and interests, the punishment will be for LVV”, said Demhasaj.
