June 21 – Astronomical summer, summer solstice.
June 21, Solstice Day, the longest day and shortest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. On June 21, 2026, at 12:24 Yerevan time, the summer solstice will take place. The Sun, moving along the ecliptic, will reach its furthest point from the celestial equator to the North Celestial Pole, signaling the beginning of astronomical summer in the Northern Hemisphere.
At the same time, the longest day and shortest night will be observed in the Northern Hemisphere. This happens because during the summer solstice, the Sun rises in the northeast and sets in the northwest, reaching its greatest height above the horizon in the south at noon. Thus, on the afternoon of June 21, the shortest shadows of the year and the highest Sun can be observed in the Northern Hemisphere.
Daytime in Yerevan will be 15 hours 02 minutes. For comparison, on the day of the winter solstice, December 21, the length of daylight in Yerevan is only 9 hours and 19 minutes.
