Cardinal Adalberto Martínez urged citizens to exercise a free, conscious and responsible vote in the internal elections. He argued that votes should not be negotiated in exchange for money, favors, gifts or particular benefits.

During a message delivered at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Asunción, Martínez pointed out that the exercise of the vote represents a civic responsibility that must be assumed freely and conscientiously.
The cardinal maintained that citizens must prioritize the common good when going to the polls and evaluate who are the most suitable people to respond to the needs of cities and municipalities.
“Consciences are not bought or sold, and votes should not be negotiated in exchange for money, perks, favors, gifts or particular benefits,” he said. He added that voting constitutes an expression of freedom, responsibility and commitment to the future of the community.

Message to candidates and future elected officials
Martínez also addressed a message to those who aspire to public office. He indicated that politics should be oriented towards the service of citizens and not towards the search for privileges or personal benefits.
In that sense, he pointed out that those who are elected should not access spaces to use power, but to serve the population that placed their trust through voting.

Inequality, hunger and regional situation
On the other hand, the cardinal expressed concern about inequalities in access to food and mentioned that many families face difficulties in meeting their basic needs, while food is wasted in other sectors.
He also made reference to the situation that Bolivia is going through due to social conflicts and highlighted the humanitarian assistance sent from Paraguay through state institutions to support the affected populations.
