Aleppo, June 23 (SANA) Interior Ministry units in the city of Aleppo on Tuesday arrested Youssef Habib, a former Brigadier General in the Republican Guard of the deposed regime, over his involvement in grave violations and crimes against civilians.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Habib previously held the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the 106th Brigade of the Republican Guard. In that role, he was responsible for overseeing inspection operations and arresting activists at checkpoints before transferring them to Major General Mohammad Khaddour and his personnel, whose groups carried out extrajudicial executions against several detainees inside the brigade’s headquarters.
Investigations further detailed his promotion through multiple military positions until he assumed the command of the Republican Guard in the eastern region in early 2023.
The Interior Ministry stated that this operation is part of ongoing efforts to track down individuals involved in crimes and violations committed against Syrians during the era of the deposed regime, ensuring they are referred to the competent judiciary for legal action.
