The inauguration ceremony of the Small Development Project (SDP) on support for operating vocational training and teaching aids for rehabilitation of ex-drug addicts was held yesterday.
Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Ko Ko Lwin said Myanmar and India continued to strengthen the longstanding friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation. He noted that the project provided practical assistance by supplying training materials to rehabilitation centres, helping former drug users develop vocational skills and improve their livelihood opportunities.
Indian Ambassador to Myanmar Mr Abhay Thakur said that India had designed projects to support sustainable regional development and address local needs. He highlighted that the rehabilitation of ex-drug users was a long-term process aimed at helping them reintegrate into society. He added that the project supported the welfare of rehabilitated drug users and was directly linked to India’s drug-free campaign, and also reaffirmed India’s commitment to further expanding bilateral cooperation.
The ceremony concluded with a video presentation on the implementation of the project. — MNA/KTZH
