On the night of May 6, Crimea was attacked by Ukrainian drones. Five people died in Dzhankoy. The authorities have not yet officially reported on other consequences of the raid, and residents are demanding the organization of an effective danger warning system.
The head of Crimea, Sergei Aksenov, was the first to warn about the attack of enemy UAVs on Crimea. “Enemy UAVs are attacking Crimea. Air defense and mobile fire groups are working against enemy drones. I ask everyone to remain calm…” he wrote on his Telegram channel at about half past ten in the evening on May 5.
A few hours later, Mr. Aksenov wrote that there were civilian casualties from the drone strike in Dzhankoy. “I express my most sincere and deepest condolences to their families and friends. The authorities will provide all necessary assistance and support. There are specialized services on site. I keep the situation under personal control. I ask you to remain calm and trust only official information,” Mr. Aksenov wrote on social networks.
The governor of Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvozhaev, expressed his condolences to the Crimeans.
“Trouble has come to our common home – Crimea. As a result of a night attack by enemy drones in Dzhankoy, five civilians were killed… There are no words that could drown out the pain of such a loss. We sincerely sympathize with every family on whose home grief has come knocking today. Happy memory to those who died. We are with you,” the governor wrote on social networks.
There has not yet been any specific official information about the consequences of the drone raid from regional and local authorities. The Crimean prosecutor’s office stated that they are monitoring the issues of respecting the rights of victims and promptly eliminating the consequences. The regional department of the Investigative Committee reported that they would investigate crimes committed by Ukrainian armed forces against civilians in Crimea, Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk and Zaporozhye regions. The circumstances of such raids are being investigated under the article on a terrorist attack (Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, on the night of May 6, on-duty air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 53 Ukrainian UAVs over the Black Sea and the territories of Crimea, Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk regions and the Moscow region.
Residents of Crimea, in turn, demand on social networks to organize an effective system of warning citizens about the impending danger. People note that they do not receive relevant messages on their phones, sirens do not sound in their communities, and the authorities are often silent.
For security reasons, a military parade and the march of the Immortal Regiment on Victory Day were canceled in Crimea. Similar decisions were made by the authorities of the Kursk, Voronezh and Novgorod regions.
