On the site of Bakšaiška Island in Bihać, an ecological action to clean the coast and underwater parts of the Una River was realized today, which symbolically and practically confirmed the importance of the joint action of institutions, schools and the local community in preserving one of the most valuable natural resources in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The action was carried out as part of the “Think Clean – Act Green” project, and support was provided, among others, by representatives of the Area Protection, Inventory, Monitoring and Conservation Service, actively participating in field activities.
The project is the result of a public call issued by the Goethe-Institut for primary and secondary schools in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In the competition of 73 registered projects, JU Elementary School Gornje Prekounje – Ripač from Bihać was included among the five most successful teams, which further confirmed the quality and importance of this initiative.
The project leader is the teacher Azra Crnčević, who together with the students through this initiative is trying to develop awareness of the preservation of biodiversity and the underwater world of the Una River, with the active involvement of young people in the protection of natural heritage.
The planned activities include the cleaning of the coastal zone and the river bed with the support of professional divers, as well as the organization of educational workshops aimed at strengthening environmental awareness among students and promoting a responsible attitude towards the environment.
The Una National Park says that such projects confirm that the synergy of educational institutions, public institutions and citizens can result in concrete and long-term effects in the protection of nature.
– Thanks to the joint action of the school, the National Park and the local community, we once again confirm that concrete and long-term results in nature protection can be achieved through partnership work, the organizers pointed out.
