Some parents of servicemen undergoing mandatory military service regularly gather near the Ministry of Defense building. The provision of serving in the army for a year and a half does not apply to their children. they were drafted earlier. They demand that the provision of 1.5 years of service be extended to their sons as well. It should be reminded that with the adopted legislative amendments, the mandatory military service period was reduced from 24 months to 18 months, starting from the winter draft of 2025, but these changes do not apply to servicemen already in service. The parents of these employees claim that there is a problem of justice and equality.
One of the protesting parents, Ms. Gold, addressed “Hraparak” and said that their demand is to form a group, to be able to meet both the Minister of Defense and the Prime Minister, to discuss the situation. “If it is not possible to shorten the term, at least we will benefit from some privileges. At least give the soldier a privilege in the form of holidays. They come on vacation, but our main demand is that they give retroactive effect to the law.”
– What did the government answer you?
– There is no positive response, they print similar texts, send us, they answer that such a thing cannot happen, the law does not have retroactive effect, but aren’t there different laws, when the law had retroactive effect, in relation to universities, they gave retroactive effect in relation to students, and we want them to give us a clear answer. There are people from our parents who definitely want us to come, sit and discuss.
