(KPL/Yonhap) Hyundai Rotem Co. said Thursday it has won a 491 billion-won (US$332 million) contract to supply driverless electric multiple units (EMUs) for a metro project in Vietnam.
The rail systems manufacturer, an affiliate of Hyundai Motor Group, will deliver the unmanned trains for Ho Chi Minh City’s Metro Line No. 2, which is scheduled to begin operations in 2030, the company said in a press release.
Separately, Hyundai Rotem signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Vietnam’s Thaco Group to provide signaling systems for the 64-kilometer line.
The company said the deal is expected to strengthen its position in Vietnam and support efforts to secure additional contracts, including planned high-speed rail projects linking the country’s northern and southern regions.
Vietnam’s high-speed rail initiative is estimated to be worth around 100 trillion won, according to the company.
