The Ministry of Health of Honduras confirmed this day a third imported case of measles in the country, as part of the intensified epidemiological surveillance due to the regional alert for this disease.
This is a female person, resident in the community of Corinto, municipality of Omoa, department of Cortés, whose case has an epidemiological link with the situation of measles that currently affects the Republic of Guatemala.
According to the official statement, the patient presented symptoms compatible with the disease, including fever, cough, red eyes (conjunctivitis), headache, runny nose and difficulty breathing. After clinical evaluation and epidemiologicalthe corresponding samples were taken, confirming the diagnosis.
Health authorities reported that the identified contacts remain under epidemiological surveillance and clinical monitoring, while response teams continue with field investigation and containment and control actions in accordance with national protocols.
The Ministry of Health reiterated that, to date, Honduras does not register indigenous cases of measlesso there is no evidence of sustained community transmission in the national territory. The confirmed cases correspond to imported events associated with the regional epidemiological situation.
Measles is a highly contagious viral disease that is transmitted by respiratory droplets and can affect people of all ages, with risk of serious complications in young children, pregnant women, unvaccinated and immunocompromised people.
Given this, the health authorities recommended that the population, especially risk groups and travelers, verify and complete their vaccination schedule with the MMR (measles, rubella and mumps) vaccine, going to health centers for its timely application.
The Ministry of Health reiterated that vaccination remains the most effective measure to prevent measles and urged the population to inform themselves only through official channels to avoid rumors and misinformation.
