On June 2, the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church celebrated the memory of Saint Gayayan virgins.
On the occasion of the great holiday, in the morning, a solemn procession of churchmen was led from Veharan to the Holy Gayane Monastery, carrying the reliquary of the Virgin Holy Gayane.
The procession, up to the arch of St. Gregory the Illuminator, was led by H.S.O.T.T. Karekin the Second Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, blessing the pious people with the holy relic.
Then His Holiness handed over the relic bearer to the Director of the Administrative and Economic Department of the Mother See, His Grace Fr. Bishop Musegh Babayan.
In connection with the day’s council, Holy and Immortal Liturgy was offered in Saint Gayane Monastery.
The liturgical priest of the Mother See was His Eminence Fr. Bishop Ananias Tsaturyan.
In his sermon, the Holy Father, referring to the behavior of the Saint Guyanese virgins and the advice of martyrdom, emphasized. “Holy virgins came to Armenia to dispel the darkness of idolatry with the light of their purity. And today, we, who live on this land, are called to dispel the darkness of despair, fear and uncertainty from among us with our loyalty and determination.
Beloved, the Holy Armenian Apostolic Church today has also opened the doors of monastic life to many and many people who are faithful and aware of their vocation, to transform their lives and become like the saints mentioned today and to bring down a constant blessing on the Armenian land with their prayers”, – noted Bishop Anania, adding that loyalty is one of the fundamental moral and spiritual values of human life that empowers a person to remain steadfast in truth, goodness and the path he has chosen.
At the end of the sacred ceremony of the liturgy in the courtyard of the Holy Gayane Monastery, the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, presided over by His Grace Fr. Haykazun Archbishop Najaryan, the saint’s relic bearer, blessed the believers and performed the order of Andastan.
