GEORGETOWN, Guyana – Hard-hitting Guyanese batsman Shimron Hetmyer has been added to the West Indies’ squad for the first three One Day Internationals (ODI) against New Zealand.
Hetymer was originally excluded from the squad after being granted a No Objection Certificate (NOC) by Cricket West Indies (CWI) to fulfil his Major League Cricket commitments.
However, in a release issued by CWI, it said the 29-year will replace injured Barbadian all-rounder Justin Greaves.
Greaves, 32, was named Player-of-the-Series in the recently concluded two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, which West Indies won 1-0.
“Shimron Hetmyer has been named as a replacement for Justin Greaves in the West Indies ODI squad for the second and third matches of the series against New Zealand in Guyana.
“Greaves was ruled out of Saturday’s opening ODI with a back injury and will return to Barbados on Monday to continue rehabilitation. He will be reassessed by the medical team ahead of the final two ODIs and the upcoming Test series against Pakistan,” the release stated.
CWI revealed that the squad for the final two matches to be played at Kensington Oval in Barbados would be released later this week.
The West Indies hold a 1-0 lead in the five-match series after winning the first ODI by seven wickets.
