Haziri: Serbia should not hold elections in Kosovo

The vice-president of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Lutfi Haziri, has expressed his opposition to the holding of Serbian elections in the territory of Kosovo, stressing that the country must continue the process of “dismantling the remaining structures of Serbian institutions”.
Serbia is expected to hold elections on October 25. The Kurti government, since 2021, has not allowed Serbian elections to be held on the territory of Kosovo. Meanwhile, in the north of the country, a few days ago, the progress of election campaigns was also stopped.
“Of course not, in no way. There are fragments of the institutions of Serbia in Kosovo, there are fossils and remains, but the dismantling of the institutions of Serbia and the former Yugoslavia has begun and happened on June 12, 1999. All those remains that have been passed on to us as a problem are a matter of time and have left, and will leave completely. What we must guarantee is that every citizen of Kosovo must have the right to live in their own homeland, to to live well in his homeland, to be treated equally and to integrate with confidence in the institutions of the Republic”, said Haziri in an interview for KosovaPress.
Haziri has expressed skepticism about the possibility of progress in the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, despite the functioning of the institutions in Kosovo.
He attributes to Serbia the main responsibility for the obstacles and instability in this process.
“Obviously, we do not expect much and, of course, from the obstacles that are emerging in this report, Serbia is their main source, a source of instability. But it is in their foreign policy and internal policy doctrine that they do not close any issue in relation to Kosovo. It should be in our main interest to close the open issues as soon as possible and for Kosovo to move independently in this direction. Serbia will continue to be the source of instability, it will to continue to build what we are carrying out now, 47-48 barracks around the border. Why did you expect Serbia to build a hub for artificial intelligence? It is not something new, it is an old policy. They will continue to work according to the principle of everything against the independence of Kosovo, he said.
In addition, Haziri also commented on the developments that preceded the election of President Justina Shiroka-Pula.
He estimated that the Vetëvendosje Movement has no problem cooperating with the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), mentioning the developments of October 6.
Speaking about the role of the LDK in the opposition, Haziri said that his party will not be involved in political clashes without substance, but will be committed to improving governance and the functioning of institutions.
He criticized what he described as a political race to make the situation worse, stressing that the opposition should focus on the interests of the citizens.
The year 2027, the year of internal elections
Likewise, Haziri has declared that the year 2027 will be the year of internal elections in this party, expressing his belief that this process can pave the way for the return of the LDK to the political scene.
Haziri has said that, in the absence of political elections for the institutions, the next political race will take place within the party itself.
