LESS THAN A week after being released from His Majesty’s Prison (HMP) Ackeem Ferdinand was shot and killed inside his home at Rockies giving real life meaning to the saying, “you live by the gun, you die by the gun”.
Ferdinand, known by the moniker “Shaka Boom”, was released from HMP on Friday, July 31, 2026 but his freedom was shortlived, as on Thursday, August 6, 2026, the 30-yearold labourer of Rockies was found dead at home when police responded to reports of gunshots at around 8:05 p.m.
Ferdinand was well known to law enforcement; he was jailed for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition on two separate occasions.
The first incident happened in 2017 when Ferdinand, 22 at the time, blamed alcohol for him possessing an unlicensed nine-millimetre Uzi and 12 rounds of unlicensed 9-mm ammunition. He was sent to prison for 75 months, however, the sentence for possession of the Uzi was reduced to five years at the Court of Appeal.
